Allegations Of Bribery
CN.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) NEW YORK, Feb. 12.
Thirteen of New York City's S 3 air pollution inspectors have been suspended, and six businessmen have been arrested in connection with alleged bribes paid to overlook pollution regulation violations.
The businessmen represent real-estate interests, the demolition business, f uel oil concerns and companies which supply equipment for boilers or incinerators. In addition to the six arrested, warrants have been issued for the arrest of two others.
The inspectors are said to have collected bribes varying from SUSS to SUS4O over the last 11 years, some businessmen paying twice a month. While the investigation into alleged corruption is continuing. information is being made available to the Manhattan District Attorney so that a grand jury can determine whether perjury, as well as bribery of public officials, has been committed.
