Shortage Of Swans
A shortage of swans on Lake Ellesmere this year was reported to the chairman of the fish committee (Mr G Mugford), to the council of the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society on Wednesday evening. He said that the annual banding of Canada geese was done between January 6 and; 10. On Lake Ellesmere 1796 birds were banded and on I.ake Forsyth, 885. As the swans were not laying, no; swans were banded. The committee responded to a application from the Ashburton Acclimatisation Society for 100 partridges this: season.
