More Permits For Building
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 12. The value of building permits issued in 1969 was $455m, $85.5m (or 23.1 per cent) up on the 1968 figure of $369.5m, and $122.2m higher than the 1967 total of $332.8m.
The Government Statistician (Mr J. P. Lewin) said in a statement that the value of permits issued in the nine months to December 31 also showed an increase.
It was $341.9m, compared with $282.3m in the corresponding period of 1968 and $243.1m in the corresponding period of 1967. But permits issued last December were worth $32.4m, $5.7m less than the $38.1m worth issued in December. 1968. but $12.9m up on the
December, 1967, figure of 519.5 m.
Permits for 1627 new houses and flats, with an aggregate value of $14.3m, were issued in December, compared with 1544 permits with a value of $12.1m in December, 1968 Permits for alterations and additions to houses and flats were also worth more in December, 1969, than in the previous December—s2.lm compared with s2m. But permits for other new buildings last December were worth $7.5m. compared with $11.5m in the previous December, and alterations, and additions permits for' other buildings were worth! sB.sm, compared with $12.5m in December. 1968. More dwellings were completed last December than in the previous December, however—lBos compared with 1737—and more dwellings were demolished—l 76 compared with 99.
