Lindsay Only Change In S. African XI
(N.Z P A.-Reuter—Copyright) PORT ELIZABETH. The wicket-keepei -batsman, D. Lindsay, for the wicketkeeper. K. Gamsy. is the only change in the South African side for the third test against Australia, starting in Johannesburg ort . February 19.
The sole change from the side which was so overwhelmingly victorious in the second test had been largely expected. Gamsy did satisfactorily behind the stumps in the first two tests, although not entirely without blemish, but his form with the bat has not been good. In his three test innings, he scored only 39 for an average of 19.50. Lindsay was the scourge of R B. Simpson's Australians
three years ago. In the five tests he scored 606 runs, including three centuries. After that series, Lindsay almost faded out of first-class cricket in this country for the next two years, mainly because of business commitments. i
He made a come-back in; the Currie Cup competition s that ended just before the! touring Australians arrived, i Playing for North-Eastern : Transvaal. Lindsay made > some good scores and did | well behind the stumps. But N.E. Transvaal is a Sec-1 ■ tion B team, and Lindsay was| the sort of opposition the Australians encoun-!
: tered in their first two ' matches of the present tour, which they won with great ease. If Lindsay has fully returned to form, his inclusion will add to South Africa's already formidable batting strength—a strengthening that hardly seems needed—and could also improve the wicket-keeping.
