Ashburton Silver, and New " Brighton Silver. , One of the compositions used as a test piece in the championships will be “Lon- . don Bridge." written by Ser- . geant J. Sutherland, a member of the New Zealand " Army Band at Christchurch. He is only the second New 1 Zealander to have his music ’ j used as a test piece, the first 1 being Brigadier D. Goffin, of the Salvation Army. 1 Sergeant Sutherland has been in the Army Band nine ’! years, having joined in Christchurch as a cornet player. He
taught himself composing and arranging at Burnham u and is now the band’s musical arranger.
