Assembly Plant, Not For City
J The British Leyland Motor Corporation has decided to build its new assembly plant lin the North Island. The Canterbury Progress, ! League had suggested to the (corporation that it site the (plant in Christchurch, which, (it said, had the necessary engineering skills, labour anil factory sites. However, the corporation’s New Zealand managing director (Mr P. K. L. Arnold) has replied that, although no final decision on a site had been made, the plant will definitely be in the North Island. The league had been seeking for two years to have the new plant built in Christchurch and corporation re- i presentatives had been incr to hear submissions from local interests at a meeting in Auckland.
