Bank Raid In Sydney
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY, Feb. 12. Armed bandits forced several women, a boy aged three, and bank staff into a lOft-by-lOft-vault savagely kicked the manager and bashed a customer’s head against a wall during the 815,000 bank raid at Willoughby, a northern suburb of Sydney, today. As customers entered the bank during the raid, they were herded one by one to join the staff in the vault. Forty uniformed police and plainclothed detectives in radio cars and trucks and on I motor-cycles sped to the scene, but there was no sign of the bandits when they arrived. The hold-up brought to 30 ; the number of armed raids 1 in Sydney so far this year.
