Million Passengers Through Airport
(A'ew Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 11. More than a million passengers passed through the Wellington Airport terminal building during 1969, the airport manager (Mr .1. W. Redstone) said today.
i Domestic passengers increased 20 per cent over the : previous year to 961.363. and international passengers in-
creased 8 per cent to 77,703. Passenger growth in the last 10 years had averaged an annual increase of 10.6 per cent, and present indications were that this might” be exceeded in the next few years. In the same period, domestic mail handled through the airport had increased 384 per ebnt. attributable mainly to the amount of mail that Safe Air was now flying through- ; out the country. j The waterfront strike in (November and December ; boosed domestic cargo ( handled 23 per cent, to j107.2m-lbs. International cargo was up two per cent to 21.1 m-lb. The only decrease in activ--5 ity in 1969 was in the handling of international mail, which dropped 9 per cent to 1528,2371 b.
