Chatham Cup “Found”; It Was Not Lost

Press Association) | WELLINGTON. r A series of errors caused i_|the Chatham Cup, New Zeay land's premier soccer trophy, r.[to be reported “lost” e| Instead of "disappearing” i in transit, the cup was rei- ceived at the Wellington f; freight depot of N.A.C. at y. 10.10 am. on Saturday, the 11 Wellington regional manager t (Mr H. D. Yates) said yesterday.
The cup was being flown to Wellington for special display at a function on Tuesday when Gillette (N.Z.), Ltd. announced a SSOOO sponsor- i ship for the competition at a function. “Endeavours were made to. contact the consignee through the telephone number on the consignment note, but without avail,” Mr Yates said. ! “This number was subsequently found to be the Auckland number of the consignor. ; which he had incorrectly enI dorsed on the consignment I note. • “Unfortunately, after endeavouring to contact the Iconsignee by phone, the conIsignment note was misfiled, i which led to the secretary of the New Zealand Football ) Association being advised that ] the parcel was not on hand.” The mistake was discovered; the cup is now in the hands of the N.Z.F.A.
