POLICE ORDER
No Boxing Allowed There will be no boxing—- ' with gloves on—at the professional wrestling at Christchurch this evening. The president of the Canterbury Boxing Association (Mr E. G. Pocock) said last evening that the police had told him they would not permit it. The Central Wrestling Association had advertised that John da Silva, the British Empire professional wrestling champion and Rasputin would fight two rounds of boxing in their wrestling contest. However, the C.B.A. told the association that no boxing could be promoted in Canterbury without the association’s permission. It seems unlikely that the police will allow da Silva, a former Auckland amateur boxing champion, and Rasputin to box bare-fisted. They would be boxing before a paying audience and therefore prize-fighting. The last prize fight in Canterbury was on the banks of the Waimakiriri River early this century—and was broken up by the police because it was illegal.
