Sitter Raises $720
After three days and four nights sitting on top of a 21ft pole in Leeston Park, Mr A. Jones has raised $720 in cash towards providing new facilities at the park and expects to beat his target of $lOOO before coming down on Saturday night. The swaying of the pole in the wind and the rocking of his 7ft-wide platform have not unduly worried Mr Jones, who is determined to stay aloft the full week. His first night up on Sat-
urday was the most difficult, with rain and blustery winds, but since then the weather had been kinder. A television set, radio and stock of books prevent boredom and many people have visited him. Mr Jones, aged 24, a salesman and part-time barman, began his sit at 10.30 p.m. last Saturday and plans to come down about 9 p.m. this Saturday, when an open-air dance will be held to welcome his return to earth.
