Returns Required With Golf Contest Entries

Handicap returns showing the number of cards completed by each player are required by the Canterbury Provincial Golf Association with entries for the inter-club competition on February 20, the management committee of the association decided on Monday evening. There was confusion at the meeting about what was required in the handicap returns.

The secretary (Mr G. W. A. Green) said that the original motion which abolished the quarterly returns from clubs demanded that all relevant scores, including differentials, were required. One entry for the competition had been received, from the Kaiapoi Club and it had included differentials, but the chairman (Mr C. J. Ward) said that all that would be required was the handicap and the number of rounds the players had played in the last six months.

The Weedons club complained to the association that three letters it had sent to the New Zealand council had not been [answered. The club’s secretary 1 (Mr B C. Byrnes) said that the letters sent in July, October and November last year asked for information on the annual levy by clubs to the council, and for information on a public risk insurance cover, because two other sporting bodies, cricket and tennis, used grounds near the Weedons Golf Club.

Mr Green said that he had rung the secretary or the council and that a reply to the letters would be sent. The Kaiapoi club asked why a clause In the public liability insurance for clubs took no account of golfers over the age of 65 who injured another person on the course. The question was passed to the national council. New course ratings were approved for Rangiora (from 70.2 to 70.5) and Weedons (71). The Weedons rating was subject to the club re measuring the course and placing permanent tee markers before the end of the season.
