Double For Trainer

(From Our Own Reporter) DUNEDIN. The West Melton trainer, J. D. Litten, produced Western VaJley and Bravine to win the on course double at Forbury Park last evening. The combination paid $67.60 for $l. Western Valley was having only his third start as a pacer when he won the O. E. Hooper Stakes. He went to the from with a mile to run but steadied behind Blue Eden and Water Skier after a furlong. He fol lowed them to the straight then drew out to win by a length and a half from the favourite Waiata. which ran on strongly after being behind Western Vai ley coming to the straight. Aero Circle fought on gamely for third, just ahead of Good Lord and Water Skier. The second favourite. Spangled Hanover, was always well back and finished eighth. Bravine led for the last 10 furlongs in the J. Farrell Pace She was allowed to dictate a slack pace and she outsprinted her rivals over the final furlong to win by almost two lengths from Young Rodney, which paced roughly early and appeared to be a forlorn chance with six furlongs left. The favourite. Old Timer, after becoming badly placed in the middle stages, finished fast for third, two lengths and a

half back. Debra Charles was a nose back fourth, followed by Special Dream and Fortun Direct Jan led throughout the J. R. McKenzie Handicap and she held on gamely to win by half a length from Going, which was second-last in a spread-out field starting the last seven furlongs. She beat Fri by half a head with a short length to Pambill. which was closely attended by Cavil! and Black Frost, Dan Mack broke after two furlongs and finished last. The Orari trainer. S. I. Henderson. produced his second winner for the night when Seafield Queen nosed Black Anne out of first place in the last stride of the T. Davidson Pace. There was merit in Seafield Queen's win as she was pushed well back just after the start. Regina Charles looked un lucky in third place, as she was late getting clear. Sydney James, whose driver. B G. Nyhan, was fined $3O for causing Interference to Double Dee in the middle stages of the race, got up for fourth, ahead of Possum Girl and Double Dee Sheer Delight brought a change of fortune to her Templeton trainer. C. C. Devine and her Christchurch owners, Mr and Mrs T. Sharpies when she won the two-mile W. T Lowe Pace.

She recorded the good time of 4min 20 2-ssec, pacing her last mile in 2min Bsec. Sheer Delight received a good run all the way and she raced right away from her rivals over the final furlong. Special Mitxure got up for second, shading the pacemaker. Newella, Raphael and Dollar Man, with Showpiece and Bobby Blue not far away. The surprise favourite. Morris Pal. was never a danger, nor was Morano Lad, which broke at the start.
