Simpson for decathlon
The New Zealand 220 yards hurdles champion, K. G. Simpson (Toe H), plans to turn his attention to the decathlon next season now that he has decided against continuing with his 400 metres hurdles build-up. A natural sprinter and jumper, Simpson should do well in this event provided he remains free of the injuries which have handicapped his progress so many times before. After a'long break, he came out last Saturday to win both the triple and long jumps in the Dorrie Leslie contest between Canterbury and Wellington. He is capable of clearing 6ft in the high jump and covering 100 yards in lOsec. His biggest problem will be mastering the pole vault With this and perhaps some of the other throwing events, he will be helped by his clubmate, D. C. Leary.
