MANAGER
MR F. STRACHAN, manager and a director of Butterfields, Ltd, Christchurch, has had long experience in retailing. He is also a nationallyknown personality in the sport of rowing. Before joining Butterfields in 1963 as sales manager he had been with an old-estab-lished Dunedin company for 25 years. He was promoted to assistant manager 18 months later and was ap-
pointed manager of the Christchurch company 12 months ago. He was also made a director of the Butterfield group of companies, which include the Simplex Pram Company and the Otago Chair Company. Mr Strachan is also vicepresident of the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association, and chairman of the national rowing selection panel, and an international rowing umpire. A past president and chairman of the Otago Rowing Association, he is a life member of that association and of the North End Rowing Club. He was secretary of the Dunedin Regatta Committee for 16 years, and for 14 years was a member of the Otago Secondary Schools’ Rowing Association. He keeps an active interest in rowing in Christchurch by carrying out some coaching. As well as visiting the Mexico Olympics, Mr Strachan has also studied retail trends in Asia, Japan and in the United States.
