The lamps, dating back to World War I, were offered by the Government Stores Board. For kerosene and candles and in a variety of sizes they included binnacle, masthead, navigation, anchor and minefield buoy lamps. It was the biggest sale of its kind in New Zealand. Lamps were sold singly to allow the public to gain access. Bids of $9 for smaller lanterns and $3O for the larger ones were made.
