6V.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SYDNEY. The touring New Zealand Universities cricket team began well in its match against Sydney University yesterday but was thwarted by the middle-order batsman, P. Anderson, whose 65 not out helped the home team to a respectable first innings score of 191. At stumps, the New Zealanders were 49 for no wicket The New Zealand bowlers, C. Kirk, I. Walter and J. Freeman, who each got three wickets, made steady progress through the Sydney University batting until they met Anderson, who stayed stubbornly for two hours and three-quarters. Walter took three for 11, Freeman three for 43 and Kirk three for 63. The other wicket was taken by G. A. Gowland at a cost of 20 runs.
