Conference Of Nurses

The theme of the, development of people in underdeveloped and developing countries was followed at the ninth world congress of the International Catholic Nurses’ Organisation in Manila.
Mrs A. J. Wright, of Timaru, who is the South Pacific vice-president of the organisation, represented New Zealand.
She presented a paper on the nurse and her place in the modern hospital, being associated in this respect with delegates from France, Japan, and the United States. Other delegates discussed the public health nurse and her place in health education. “Delegates spoke on the way they taught people of the under-developed and developing countries the rhythm and | ovulation methods of family planning which are acceptj able to Roman Catholic teachj ing,” said Mrs Wright. She described the congress as most colourful—a panorama‘SThational costumes and flags which was “simply breathtaking.”
The six vice-presidents were presented with a Filipino national costume which they wore to a nepa dinner party. Mrs Wright’s, of turqoise silk, featured pearls and beads on the bodice with a panel of pleats descending from the waist on one side. The head delegate from each country received an intricate gold key from the Mayor of Manila (Antonio J. Villegas), the key signifying the freedom of the City of Manilla.
Mrs Wright, who was accompanied by her husband, said they were overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of the Filipino people.
