Dodds at Wairoa today and, as he has freshened since racing at WoodviUe earlier tn the month, he looks the likely favourite for the Gordon Nolan Memorial Handicap, first leg of the Wairoa double. The local mare, Brazen Lady, Ims drawn wide in the second leg, the Ormond Memorial, but her brilliance is expected to counter this disadvantage. Practice will appreciate the Te Kupenga track surface and these conditions will also suit Pundanul, a winner at the meeting last year and well Masoned by recent racing. The subsequent form of Champion Boad and Backfire at Trantham emphasises the merit of Student Prince’s Hastings Gold Cup third and with Scots Bard, Sir Barton and Town Crier he looks a likely lightweight. Brazen Lady is smart, as she showed with her good second behind Shelly Burford in her Hastings open-class debut. Hostage, which has been working well, and Petite Bose look the next best.
