Appointee will have his own team alongside the present Psychiatrist, who opened the Department of Psychiatry in November, 1969. A purposebuilt Psychiatric Unit will shortly open to serve a mixed urban-rural population . of 110,000, the team to include 2 registrars and a psychologist. The nearest public psychiatric hospital is 165 miles away. The Department of Psychiatry is an integral part of a progressive and rapidly expanding General Hospital; a neurosurgeon visits regularly from Otago Medical School, and an E.E.G.
