Fewer Births
Compared with January last year, the number of births and marriages in Christchurch this month decreased, and the number of deaths increased, the Registrar of Births,- Deaths and Marriages reported yesterday. There were 516 births, compared with 551 last January, and 177 deaths, compared with 159. The number of marriage notices given was 250 (293), and the number of marriages performed in the registry office ; was 39, compared with 44 last January.
