Nagle, Lister clear golf leaders

TT was a case of K, D. G. Nagle first, J. M. Lister second, and the rest virtually nowhere in the 1969-70 New Zealand sponsored golf circuit, which ended earlier this month. Nagle, the veteran Australian who is now in his fiftieth year, won four of the seven major tournaments to emerge with the best scoring average—and the fattest purse. The young New Zealander, Lister, who had one win and was runnerup four times, finished a clear second on both counts. • A competitor in six of the seven major events, Nagle ended a memorable summer’s trip to New Zealand with a return of 66 under par for 22 rounds—an average of three under par a round. Lister, who played the complete circuit, was 58 under par for 26 rounds, for an average of 2.23 under par a round.

Only 11 other professionals achieved sub-par aggregates and two of these players, P. W. Thomson (Australia) and T. Murakami (Japan) confined their appearances to two tournaments.
