Sir,—C. J. O’Neil seems to be attributing to me a pungency of observation to which, unfortunately, I cannot lay claim. He is on the right track though if he is simply concluding from the quotetion I gave from Lincoln Steffens as to which direction in which my prejudice (call it what he may) ties. It may well be, as he says, that sociologists do- surface occasionally with some effect on the community. Certainly lawyers, when defending publishers and authors against Obscenity Tribunal
