TROTTING Leading Light Is Cud Favourite

"The Preet" Special Service WELLINGTON. With only nine in the Wellington Cup, the event looks easy for Leading Light, even though he will start from the back mark of 42 yards.

If he wins Leading Light will complete a treble at the meeting. James, second to him on both occasions, looks the toughest to beat While James only just went under on the first night, he was well beaten in the Mun>hy Handicap on Saturday night Chequer Board, Co Pilot and Meadow Bank may also be bard to beat Chequer Board has had a lot of racing recently and does not seem to be racing with his usual dash. In form, he would be very tough to beat Co Pilot was beaten on the first night through no fault of his own. But he had every show on Saturday and the best he eould manage was fourth. Meadow Bank looks a possible improver. He was third on Saturday and although his recent form has been disappointing he is useful. Meadow Bank is the Cup holder. He was awarded the race after running second to Top Copy, when the latter returned a positive swab. The newcomer to the ranks is Via Veneto. She paced a fine race to win the second leg on Saturday night and her pace might trouble the fancied runners. The other three runners Lords, Port Boxer and Torrent would all have to improve a good deal. But in form could trouble. More Open

> this, the Thunder Handicap, ' Black Swan might improve on 1 his placings and win. He was third on the first night and an unlucky third in the Thompson Handicap on Satur- : day. ' The first-night winner, Lord ' Avon, will be better suited ' by the 1} miles of the Thun- * der Handicap and should im- . prove on his seventh in Sat--1 urday's Thompson. ' Yakamo was a gallant second in the Thompson HandlI cap and should be hard to ; beat, while Inky Boy looks ' ready to return to form. ' Ballytrue, Selena and Cochrane should be the best of the others. L Selections: 435 p.m.—Marten, Handicap: Pr.rty Ul. Indian Sign.
