Youth Returned To Party With Rifle
(New Zealand Frees Association) WANGANUI, January 12. A young gate-crasher was disarmed by two youths after he threatened the host with a rifle at a party at Castlecliff on Sunday night.
The incident is the most serious in a series of gatecrashing episodes which began in Wanganui a little over a week ago. The police said today they were “fed up” with gatecrashers and would deal with them severely in future. Senior-Sergeant J. Perring said today a youth would appear in the Wanganui Children’s Court tomorrow after the incident at Castlecliff.
Mr Peering said the youth had gone to the party and was forcibly removed by the host after his behaviour had become objectionable. The youth went to his car and obtained a .22 rifle, the
property of his brother, Mr Peering said.
Armed with the rifle the youth had gone back to the party where he several times threatened the host, he said. The youth also threatened other guests before he was disarmed.
It was nqt known until the youih was disarmed that the rifle had not been loaded, Mr Perring said. Until last week gate-crash-ing had been relatively tare in Wanganui. But three incidents were reported to police at the week-end. “We are fed up to the neck with gate-crashers,” Mr Peering said. “In future they will be taken before the Court!’
