Prospecting warrants for the Consolidated Silver Mining Company of New Zealand, Ltd. to make investigations on the east coast of the North Island have been received by the Lands and Survey Department at Gisborne.
The company has also applied also for warrants to cover an area of Maori land, but a date for this hearing has still to be set down for the Maori Land Court. The East Coast operations are expected to involve expenditure of between $50,000 and 3100.000, depending, on the scope of mineral deposits. Copper, nickel, lead, zinc, molybdenum and tungsten were nominated in the application. (P.A.). Sail Merger
Two sail-making companies, Hood Sailmakers, Inc., of America, and Sails and Covers, Ltd (Bouzaid Sails) have merged to form a new company—Hood Sails New Zealand, Ltd. Announcing the merger, the Sails and Covers managing director (Mr Chris Bouzaid) said the move would give improved service to the New Zealand yachting field and greater ability to expand the already considerable export market in the South Pacific. “World famous lightweight cloths, manufactured by Hood at Marblehead (Massachusetts) will be available and adapted for use in New Zealand conditions,” he said.
Geologists Named Mr K T. Russell has been appointed chief geologist of Broken Hill South, Ltd. Mines Exploration Proprietary, Ltd, the company’s wholly-owned exploration subsidiary, also has been appointed Messrs K. F. Rogers and Mr K. Kappelle, senior geologists, and Mr P. J. Verwoerd senior project geologist
