Maori Singer Wins Contest
(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, January 11. A 20-year-old male Maori vocalist from Hamilton, Tui Fox, last night won Joe Brown’s nation-wide “Search for the Stars” talent contest at Rotorua. The first prize was worth $2OOO. More than 3000. people crammed the Rotorua Sportsdrome to hear the 16 finalists compete. Solo vocalists took all five major prizes. The second prize, worth $5OO, was won by another] Maori male singer, Bunny Walters, of Auckland. Miss L jsley Mettam, aged 17, of Woodville, was third ($300), Gary McNatty, of Invercargill was fourth ($200) a 12-year-old boy soprano, Mark Prain, of Dunedin was fifth ($100).
