Obituary

MrA. W. Lack Mr Albert Williain Lack, who died in Christchurch recently, was wellknown throughout New Zealand as a speedboat official and driver. He was 57.

Mr Lack was born in Timaru and educated at the Christchurch Technical College. He worked at the Bower Service Station for 30 years, leaving it to serve in the Middle East and Italy with the 23rd Battalion and later with the Sth Brigade Headquarters. He was a warrant officer when he returned home. After the war Mr Lack owned the Bower Service Station in partnership with his brother, Harold. He was on the executive of the New Brighton Returned Services’ Association.

Mr Lack joined the New Brighton Power Boat Club in 1956, and was a committee member, club captain, vicecommodore and commodore. He was on the executive of the South Island Speedboat Association and a club delegate to that association and the New Zealand Speedboat Association -on many occasions. He was elected a life member of the New Brighton Power Boat Club. Before World War 11, Mr Lack was a member of the Corsair Motor-cycle Club and was a rider and official. A quietly-spoken man, Mr Lack had a keen sense of humour and was noted for good sportsmanship. He leaves a widow and two daughters. Mrs J. McGregor (Auckland), and Mrs G. Cockroft (Christchurch).
