The Election
Sir, —The loopholes in our outdated voting system should have been sealed off. The fact that an elector can cast a vote in any one of the dozen or so booths in his area, or even at the race track, leaves the whole system open to abuse; and the sooner postal voting is introduced the better. As in the case overseas, all electors should be issued with an official voting card with name, address, and number, etc., which is handed in before receiving the voting slips. In other words, no card, no vote. Special arrangements are made for lost of forgotten cards—a problem which can only be dealt with direct through the local polling stations and not at shows or race tracks. The principle of one man one vote cannot be maintained under the present system and a change is long overdue—Yours, etc., December 5, 1969.
