HOSPITAL CHAPEL
(from Out Own Reporter; UMARU, Dec. 4. A united service for the dedication of the chapel at tho Timaru Hospital win be held by the South Canterbury Hospital Board on Saturday. The service will be conducted by the chaplain frf the Christchurch Hospital (the Rev; I. Wilson), and the door of the chapel will be opened by a former matron of the Timaru Hospital (Mias M. G. Moore).
The chapel stands at the beck of the nurses’ homo and next to the Jean Todd maternity annex, overlooking landscaped gardens atoning towards the Timaru Gardena. Angled windows admit the
light, and the effect on two stained-glass windows on the wall of the sanctuary is striking One of these windows was given by the Timaru Rotary Club, and the other was provided by nurses who attended the nurses’ centennial reunion to IM4 . and nursing staff of 1968, The design incorporates tire medal of the Registered Nurses’ Asaociatiw. The chalm are of antique, gold-coloured leather with black, wmughHron frames and matching gold knee pads. Deep gold tiles cover the floor, and the sanctuary will ba carpeted in a plain, rich, gold carpet,
The chapel has'seating for 75 persons, and there is space for bed or wheelchair patients.
The sanctuary furniture, which copsista of altar table, lecterns, candleholders, and a large cross, is made of Stainless steel and fibre glass. The furniture waa designed by a Chriatahurcb sculptor, Mr J. Turner. The chapel and furnishings h«ye cost about 320,000. Practically tho full amount has come from donations, the exception being toe chaplain's room. This ia being financed by the Department of Health, as la central heating of toe chapel.
