Registrar. 7583 UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY CHAIR OF ASIAN LANGUAGES THE Council of the University proposes to establish a Department of Asian Languages and invites applications for the Chair of Asian Languages and the Headship of the Department. The intention is to introduce first the teaching of the Japanese language from the beginning of the academic year of 1971 and Council hopes to appoint a scholar well qualified and experienced in that field in time to recruit other members of staff and to lay the foundation, of a library collection in Japanese. At present the salary for a Professor is within the range of *7400 to *10,500 per annum, but new salary conditions are expected to apply from April 1, 1970.
