Phone 34-394. 3731 RESEARCH OFFICERS THE DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR requires Research Officers or Assistant Research Officers to work in the following fields: 4971 MANPOWER PLANNING—The Manpower Planning Unit is concerned with forecasting of future manpower requirements by industry and occupation, and the use of these forecasts in developing labour market policies to provide the required composition of skills in the future labour force; to develop human resources, and to enable economic targets to be achieved. The forecasts will also assist in planning technical and other education, apprenticeship, general vocational training, and retraining needs. Appointees will be required to undertake some field work in order to maintain a close liaison with industrial undertakings, industry associations, trade unions and Government Departments. Each research officer is allocated a broad industrial sector as his responsibility. Qualifications required: a sound degree in economics, preferably with some statistics and mathematics; good personality; mature approach to research problems and ability concisely to report findings. 4972 GENERAL RESEARCH—AnaIysis and interpretation of employment trends, vacancies, labour turnover, hours and earnings, changes in age and sex of working population; employment studies of special groups such as women, juveniles, apprentices, older workers, Maoris, etc.; wages and salary trends and policies; industrial accidents; industrial relations, disputes, collective bargaining, redundancy, etc.; migration; miscellaneous fields related to labour economics. Appointees will be required to undertake work in one or more of the above fields. Qualifications required! A sound degree in economics, preferably with some studies in Labour economics and industrial relations. Other degrees such as geography, sociology or psychology would be considered; ability to report findings. Salary will be in the range $2665 to $3970 depending on qualifications and experience.
