S.AJS. Force In Malaysia (NJS.PA .-Reuter—Copyright) KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 4. The British Army yesterday confirmed that a Special Air Services (SA.S.) squadron was In the Malaysian jungle just south of the Thai border, but insisted that it was just on a training exercise.
The confirmation came after reports from well-in-formed sources that about 200 SA.S. men were in the jungle area, where Malaysian security forces are hunting down Communist infiltrators, and had been there tor several months.
At first the British Army spokesman declined all comment, but later said that one SA.S. squadron had been in
the area since August on an exercise planned in Britain and agreed to by the Malaysian Government earlier in the year. The jungle training exercise would finish soon, he added. Several hundred terrorists ■ are thought to be active along the border areas of northern Malaysia and southern Thailand, occasionally clashing with joint border patrols.
