Teachers 9 College Graduation

There was a growing appreciation of the significance of education in New Zealand society and elsewhere in the world, the chairman of the Christchurch Teachers’ College council (Professor H. E. Field) said at the graduation ceremony of the primary divirion of the college in the Civic Theatre last evening. He told the graduates that exciting opportunities lay ahead for them both in the field of personal achievement and in service to their fellow men.

Last evening about 270 of those who received diplomas were from the first group of students to complete the three-year course.

The principal of the primary division of the college (Dr J. F. Mann) said that the real test of the three-year course would be in the measure of success the young teachers had in the classroom.

“Although these students have received an additional year of training they are no more ready-made as teachers than their two-year predecessors,” he said. “It would be unfair of schools and administrators to expect too much too soon.”
