PEAR FRUITLETS
Young Doyenne du Cornice pear fruitlets shortly after petal fall still show the floral parts, the calyx being particularly prominent It will be noticed 'that as yet the fruit is above the stalk.
As development approaches maturity the extra weight will
cause the stem to bend and the fruit will assume its hanging position. With the exception of Winter Cole and Winter Nelis thinning of pears is not usually necessary. The same spray schedule as applied to apples can be used on pears
i as they have many pests and diseases in common, such as codling moth and black spot If carbaryl is used for s caterpillar control it should t not be used until about one 5 month after petal fall as it > can have a thinning effect s on the fruit.
