NEW COACH
The New Zealand soccer representative, K. France, has been appointed to replace the former Scottish amateur international, J. S. Chalmers, as coach to the Technical club, I winner of last season’s southern. league championship. The appointment was confirmed at the annual meeting of the club this week when Chalmers officially resigned the position he has held since his arrival in Christchurch five years ago. Chalmers, who will remain as a committee member of the club and its representative on the combined national league side, Christchurch United, led Technical as player-coach to the national Chatham Cup final in 1968 and as non-playing coach to the southern league title] this year. A teacher at Christchurch] Boys’ High School, he will! now concentrate on schools’] soccer. France transferred toj Technical from New Brighton, with whom he bad been I player-coach, at the start of the 1968 season. It was a fate-] ful change. He was vice-captain of the New Zealand team which . played in the South Vietnam i tournament and has led Can--11 terbury for the last two years. ■ He was Canterbury’s “Player of the Year” in 1967. i ] Also at the Technical club's I ] annual meeting, the former ’(secretary and present assistant secretary, Mr A. L. Gray, ■ .was made a life member.
