Road Courtesy
Mrs E. I. Tombleson (Nat., Gisborne) in Parliament this week urged the introduction ■of a driving award for the (most courteous driver of the year, and the Minister of Transport (Mr Gordon) promised to have officials of his department consider the suggestion. Road safety publicity had failed to slow the accident rate on the roads, and there were 12,000 accidents, with 522 fatalities, last year, Mrs Tombleson said. She was sure the main cause of accidents was bad manners.— (P.A.)
