Scientific Voyage (N Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 14. The Navy supply ship Endeavour returned to Auckland today after travelling 10,000 miles since she sailed in August on the Royal Society’s Cook bicentenary scientific expedition to the Pacific Islands. After attending the bicentenary celebrations at Gisborne the Endeavour dropped anchor in Tolaga Bay, where Lieutenant James Cook anchored on Monday, October 23, 1769. A party from the ship, including the chairman of the Cook County Council (Mr R. C. Parker) and the chairman of the Gisborne Harbour; Board (Mr D. Crisp) landed by boat in Cook’s Cove.
