Sale Called Off

(N.Z. Press Association} MELBOURNE. The sale of a New Zealand three-year-old colt, Daryl’s Joy, to a New York syndicate for $225,000 was called off yesterday. The decision was made by a Melbourne businessman and horse breeder, Mr G. Skuce on behalf of the Dansar syndicate after a veterinary report. A provision of the sale was that Daryl's Joy should have a faultless veterinary certificate. Mr Skuce said the report had revealed a minor blemish but he would not reveal what It was. The American trainer, E. Jackson, flew to Melbourne last week to see the colt run. Daryl's Joy was beaten by the champion sprinter, Vain, on Saturday, but Evans was so impressed that the sale was negotiated. The Singapore businessman, Mr R. Goh, who owns the colt, was to have retained a Quarter share if the sale were completed. Daryl’s Joy was scratched on Tuesday from the Caulfield Cup. The scratching was made not long after the veterinary surgeons began their initial inspection of the colt at Flemington. Now that Daryl's Joy Is not going to America he will

Brown, was not very happy with a statement by Jackson that although Daryl's Joy was a good colt, he would not be top class in America. Now Daryl's Joy, by running In the Victoria Derby, will have an opportunity of proving which trainer is correct. Daryl's Joy will be ridden In the Victoria Derby by the American jockey, J. Sellers, who won the Moonee Valley Stakes on the colt and was on him when he was second in the Caulfield Guineas.
