“BEEHIVE” CONTRACT
First Stage Let (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 15. The contract for stage one of the “beehive” building in Parliament grounds has been let to a Wellington firm, W. M. Angus, Ltd, the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) announced when the House resumed today. In a brief statement, he said the contract covered the demolition of the old twostorey building, and of the timber link to Parliament Buildings. It also called for the excavation and construction of foundations, sub-basement, basement, ground floor slab and an underground link to the existing building, and the construction of an underground car park and ramp. The contract was for two years and it was hoped work would begin before the end of the year, Mr Holyoake said.
