PAYOUT MISTAKE
Betters $1 Short Some backers of the favourite, Count Cano, winner of the Colvin Hack Handicap at Riccarton yesterday, were underpaid. Because of a mistake in the totalisator, the pay-out began with win backers of Count Como being paid a dividend of $2.05. It is thought that about 300 win tickets were paid out on Count Como at $2.05 for SI before it was discovered that the correct dividend was 33.05, Officials of the Westport club announced later that backers of Count Como who had been paid 31 short for every dollar they wagered should make application to the totalisator company to make up the difference. “We only hope there are not dishonest people about to capitalise on such a situation; they could bankrupt us," the official said.
