DEMONSTRATION OF NEW RIFLE SIGHT
The New Zealand Army and those of seven other nations are evaluating a new rifle sight which takes the skill out of shooting. For the last two weeks a former British Army officer, Mr P. Keen, the technical manager of Singlepoint (Great Britain), Ltd, has been demonstrating the sight throughout New Zealand. For the last two days he has been at a range at West Melton where representatives of the Army, the Police, television and newspapers were able to test their ability. The sight can be fitted to a rifle, pistol, a shotgun or air rifle. It is about Bin long and fits on to the rifle as would a telescopic sight There the similarity with other sights
ends as the shooter does not close an eye and does not look at the sight but at the target A beam of light from a harmless radio-active source is directed back into the right eye. The left eye sees the target and the two images coincide in the brain with the result that the shooter sees the target with a spot on it The spot is then put on the target and the trigger is pulled. When the trials ended yesterday afternoon Mr Keen left for Australia to give demonstrations there.
