Clashes In Naples

(N.Z. P. A.-Reuter— Copyright) NAPLES, October 14. Striking bus and taxi drivers clashed with police and brought city traffic to a halt in Naples yesterday as Italy’s autumn of labour unrest entered its fifth week. Thousands of people left their cars parked along streets in tbe city centre and walked home from work after the strikers jammed strategic squares with their own cars, in a protest for new rights of way in the city's congested streets. Several policemen were injured in scuffles as they tried to break up a road block of cars outside the City Council chamber. Five strikers were arrested. Meanwhile. 24,000 cement workers began a three-day national strike which will be followed by a total ban on overtime and a series of stoppages to back demands for a better deal in a new labour contract.
