Vegetable And Fruit Prices
Prices for vegetables sold at ♦he Christchurch produce markets yesterday were generally either the same or slightly cheaper than those sold last Thursday. Few vegetables rose in price’. Among the vegetables which were cheaper yesterday were pumpkins down 50c to $9 a sack, and spinach down 30c at $1.20 a case. The maximum price for lettuces dropped from $2.40 to $2.10 and the maximum price for tomatoes from 60c a pound to 46c a pound. Vegetables which increased in price included cauliflowers up 30c at from $1.20 to $2 a case and cucumbers up 50c at from $1 to $2.50 a case. The official price range supplied by the Christchurch Fruit and Vegetable Wholesalers’ Association is:— Silver Beet.—To 80c a case. Beetroot.—To $2 a case. Pumpkins.—To $9 a sack Cabbages.—Boc to $1.85 a case. Carrots.—soc to 60c a case. Cauliflowers.—sl.2o to $2 a ease. Onions.—6oc to 80c a sugar bag. Parsnips.—To $1.50 a case. I Swedes.—To $1 a bag. Potatoes.—6oc to 80c a sugar bag. Spring Onions.—To 60c a dozen bunches. Radishes.—To 60c a dozen bunches. Parsley.—Bc a bunch. Lettuces.—soc to $2.10 a case. Leeks.—3oc to 60c a case. Celery.—Utah, North Island: to $2.80 a case. Spinach.—To $1.20 a case. Cucumbers.—sl to $2.50 a case. Asparagus.—lsc to 27c a bunch. Rhubarb.—To $1.40 a dozen bunches. Tomatoes.—27c to 46c a lb. Grapefruit.—ss.so to $7 a case.
