Derby Win To N.Z. Horse
N.Z. Press Association ADELAIDE. The New Zealand-bred Paradigm won the WOO South Australian Derby, one mile and a half, at Morphettrille on Saturday in race record time. Backed to 10/8 on. Paradigm beat Natural Trump (9/2) in a close finish by half a head, with Beaudale (9/1) third. two lengths further back. Paradigm, bought at the New Zealand yearling sales by the top trainer, J. B. Cummings, for a Chicago bueinessman. Mr D. M. McKeller, unleashed a great burst from the middle of the field at the home turn to Bnish the race in 2min 31 3/10sec. He beat off a challenge by Beaudale, the only filly in the race, and then stubbornly held Natural Trump, which followed him when he made his break. Paradigm's win was the sixth success by a New Zealand galloper in the South Australian Derby over the last 10 years ■nd the fourth win in the race tor Cummings. Paradigm was bred at Sir ffoolf Fisher’s Ra Ora Stud, Auckland, and changed hands at 32800 at the 1968 sales at Frentham.
