Two Jockeys Suspended

Queen's Birthday, which finished second in the Oretl Hack Handicap at Invercargill on Saturday was relegated to fourth and Stamen was promoted to second and Hydel to third. An official statement on the Incident said: “Short of the winning post Hydel (G. w. Wright), which finished fourth, had to be checked when Queen’s Birthday (A. K. Robineon) shifted ground Inwards." The payment of the place dividends Was withheld and Robinson charged with allowing his mount to shift inwards. The committee upheld the charge and suspended Boblnison to and including October J. R. Brown, the rider of Trunann in the Barkly Novice No. 2, was charged with careless riding, causing Interference to Gloway (T. P. Brown) about three-quarters of a furlong from the finish. After hearing evidence and viewing a film of the race the committee found, the charge proven and suspended Brown up to and including October Seaward Whispers had to be destroyed after falllog at the end of a furlong In the Barkly Novice Stakes No. 2. An inquiry revealed that Seaward whispers was racing greenly and after losing ground at the start rushed up on the inside of Bellah and Chatpak but shifted ground and was accidentally struck on the hind leg by Bellah. This caused Seaward Whispers to fall. There was no carelessness on the part of any rider. M. J. Lawson suffered a severe Shaking and bruising and was stood dawn for the remainder of the day.
