RACING Glamis Lad Favoured In Riccarton Feature Race

Form students will be disillusioned if Glamis Lad and Sailing Home are not two of the dominating figures in the finish of the Westport Jockey Club’s Morley Handicap at Riccarton tomorrow.

But opinions appear to be fairly evenly divided which of the two will be superior at the end of a mile and a quarter in the first leg of the Westport club’s T.A.B. concession double.

Glamis Lad is top-weight with 9st and is 131 b above Sailing Home. When 191 b separated them In the mile Gordons Gin Handicap at Ashburton last month the more seasoned Sailing Home beat the Washdyke horse by half a neck. Both have won in the meantime. Sailing Home completed a double for the Ashburton meeting with a decisive length victory in the Cup four days after she beat Glamis Lad. Glamis Lad did not contest the Ashburton Cup, but the Geraldine Cup was easy for him. Glamis Lad should come up better than ever for tomorrow’s race, and unless one of the light-weights makes it a cracking gallop in the lead . - : i ' ! 1 ’ ! , 1 5 i

i the top-weight should meet every demand made on him. A hard-run race would suit Sailing Home, which does not . have brilliant acceleration, but runs her races out gameother form runners in the field include Displease, Golden Promise, and Kiowa, which were the next best to Glamis ; Lad in the Geraldine Cup. Beau Leigh failed on the second day of the Dunedin spring meeting after seconds, ’ one behind Sailing Home in the Ashburton Cup, at his ’ previous two starts. Gee Tee won against sprinters at Ashburton, but showed nothing when stepped up to a middle distance in the Geraldine Cup. He should be more seasoned now and rates a light-weight chance on his top form. Class Horse Red Chips is the elass horse of the field for the Canterbury Handicap, second leg of lhe double, and his class is expected to outweigh any disadvantage caused by lack of recent racing. Red Chips has 9st 21b or 121 b more than Billy Joe, whose early-season programme was interrupted when he was galloped on while running second to Cantostan in the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Paparua Handicap on Grand National day. Red Carpet and Tumble have been markedly consistent in their campaigns this season. Red Carpet has had Tumble in minor places behind him in bis two wins this season, but there was little between them last time out, at Orari. Gay Doctor was an unlucky , I !

fifth in . the race Red Carpet won at the Geraldine meeting. He proved that by winning at Invercargill at his next start, then added two minor placings at the Dunedin spring meeting. Billy Joe’s bracketed mate, Royal Blue has been away from racing since the autumn, but there has been plenty of evidence in his training that he will produce a bold run fresh up.
