Erasures ' A Thing Of The Past’
Time-consuming erasures are a thing of the past for the secretary in this photograph. Every word she types is recorded on a magnetic card inserted into a small console placed alongside her desk.
To correct a keyboard mis- 1 take she need only backspace ; and type over the error with ■ the correct letter or word and < continue typing. The record- ' ing on the card is automatically corrected. < Once a typing assignment is : completed, and all corrections ' have been recorded on the : magnetic card, the secretary i puts a fresh piece of paper in
her special typewriter, presses a button and watches her work bring “played back" error-free, at a rate of 150 words a minute.
Identical in size to standard computer ptmeh cards, the magnetic typewriter cards have a capacity equivalent to more than a full quarto page of copy. They can retain typed material for an indefinite period or be used again and again for fresh Jobs.
Changes In Text Apart from corrections, the cards will accommodate changes in text without any need for retyping of an entire page. New words, lines or even full paragraphs can be inserted for automatic play-back with the remainder of stored copy. Each line on a card is easily correlated to its corresponding line on a typed page. Each card is numbered for filing convenience.
Introduced recently by the 1.8. M. World Trade Corporation, the magnetic card typewriter will be in use in New Zealand near the end of the year.
