PATIENT INNINGS
Park Set For Win A patient and authoritative' innings by the Lancaster Park opening batsman, A. M. McKendry. put bls side in a strong position in the match against East-Chrtvtchurch Shirley a* Burwood Parte. The pitch, which had been covered since Thursday, played truly if a trifle slowly, and from it the Lancaster Parte batsmen extracted runs at a steady rale. With McKendry in control at one end, all the other batsmen played an attacking game, and although in terms of runs the Individual totals were not high, the scoring of a run a minute has laid the foundations of an outright win. McKendry looked a batsman In form from the very etart of his innings. He timed his shots beautifully, particularly on the off. No bowler really troubled him. His defence wae as steady as bls attack was assured. The Bast-Chrtstchurch Shirley bowling was steady and accurate and the medlum paeed W. McQueen and A. C. Nottingham received ample reward for their persistence. Both bowled loosely at times but variations of pace and length kept the batsmen watchful. However, G. D. V. Pulley appeared to be the most difficult to play and several times clearly beat th* bat. Wicket* feu regularly in EastChrlstchurch Shirley’s innings and no batsman stayed long enough to contest the bowlers’ command. Pulley batted stubbornly but the Lancaster Park bowlers kept on the pressure throughout. R. M. Gearry, bowling at a slow medium pace, was In almost complete control and C. W. Aldridge and K. C. Chambers bowled tightly and competently. Umpires: Messrs T. F. Mathie and B. Dennison,
