104-year-old Woman Dies

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. October 8. One of the earliest settlers at Little Huia on the Manukau Harbour, Mrs Elizabeth Anne Tidey, died today aged 104. For the last 35 years she had lived in Opua with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs C. Taylor. Born in New Zealand, she worked with her father, Mr G. F. Smith, at an early age in the Huia Bush, sawing timber and splitting shingles. At the age of 23 she married and left the 10-acre block of bush in the Huia Valley and went to the gum-digging flats at Dargaville. After a brief spell of farming her husband became a carrier.
